How do I sign up for Home Care services?
The first thing that needs to happen is to contact your local county and speak with their intake office to determine your eligibility for services.
After completion of an assessment through your county, if you are found to be eligible for services, DHS will send the service agreement to agency of your choice and your service begins according to what you are deemed as needing.
If I am receiving services, how do I transfer agencies?
If for any reason a client (the person receiving PCA services) wants to change agencies, they contact the agency that they want to transfer to and complete transfer paperwork and within a week the transfer usually goes through.
Can my family member be my Personal Care Assistant (PCA)?
Most of the time, yes. It is NOT permissable for services between spouses and from parent to child when the child is below 18 years old. Any exception to this rule is issued at the DHS level and cannot be granted by any agency alone.
What are the requirements to be a Personal Care Assistant (PCA)?
- Passing a background check
- Having a PCA certificate and have passed PCA exam (Balsam Home Care can help prepare you for this)
- Work experience as a PCA preferred but not required
If I am receiving PCA services but want to change my PCA, what do I do?
Conflicts between clients and PCA's are not uncommon. The best thing to do is to speak with your agency and request that they provide you with another PCA. Usually this is something that agencies are glad to help with.
